A new interview on Reality Check with Ross Coulthart, available on NewsNation's YouTube channel, has drawn attention to a series of mysterious sightings in southern Greenland. In the episode, Ross Coulthart speaks with Danish UFO researcher and lawyer Martin Kleist, who presents footage of what he claims is an anomalous object filmed rising from behind a mountain near the town of Narsarsuaq.

You can watch the full interview with Martin Kleist on Reality Check with Ross Coulthart below.
According to Martin, the object was visible to the naked eye and captured using an infrared camera during a research trip to the remote region. The footage shows a glowing light that rises into view before abruptly vanishing. He describes repeated sightings in the same location, often witnessed by credible observers including pilots and air traffic controllers. Some of the lights were described as cone-shaped and multi-coloured when seen through binoculars.

Martin said these sightings are not new to locals, who have seen strange lights for years. A Greenlandic pilot first tipped him off about the activity in 2023, describing an oval-shaped craft seen during a helicopter landing. The pilot also claimed that sightings in the area were frequent - happening daily - and had been witnessed by other professionals in aviation.

Ross presses Martin on whether the Danish authorities have taken these sightings seriously. Martin explains that reports have been filed with local command and referred to the police, but no official investigation has followed. "They just shelved the cases," he says, adding that the Danish Defence Command told him there have been no UFO reports in the last ten years. However, Martin challenges this claim directly, citing both witness testimony and his own footage as clear evidence to the contrary.

Perhaps most notably, he claims there is no cooperation between Danish and American authorities when it comes to sharing data on unidentified aerial phenomena in the region. "I inquired, and I said, 'Do you speak with the Americans about this? Do you share any data about this?' and they said, 'No... we don't speak with the Americans about this.'"

The area has gained geopolitical significance in recent years, with renewed American interest in Greenland driven by rare earth minerals, strategic location, and military presence in the north. The former Thule Air Base - now renamed Pituffik Space Base - is operated by the United States Space Force. Ross points out that some of the sightings happened in the same timeframe and latitude as other reported UAP incidents near the Arctic Circle, including objects tracked and then lost by NORAD in early 2023.

The interview also touches on the cultural context of these sightings. Martin speaks about the indigenous Greenlandic worldview, where supernatural experiences are treated as part of nature, not something separate or unusual. He recounts a conversation with a shaman who described such lights as a familiar and accepted part of the landscape.

While Martin stops short of offering an explanation, he hints at the possibility that the phenomenon might be more than just physical craft - suggesting a consciousness element, or even time-related phenomena. The film he's working on, tentatively titled The One That Looks Like a Plate, aims to explore not just the sightings, but their broader implications, and how encounters with the unknown affect the people who witness them.

Whatever the cause, Martin believes the sightings deserve to be taken seriously. "This isn't just a political issue. There are things flying up there that no one knows what they are," he says. "And the people of Greenland deserve to be heard."
