The 11th century castle built on the bank of the River Medway is said to be haunted by the ghost of a local woman who, according to local legend, died there. Elizabeth Lewis fell into a deep hole while trying to rescue her dog during renovation worked at the castle in 1892, after three days and no sign of rescue, she died of starvation. It's said that her cries for help are still heard to this day, as well as the sound of her phantom dog barking.
