Inspiration for Halloween costumes, including outfits worn by characters that have appeared in the most popular movies and television shows of 2018.
The list is inspired by the top movies of the year, as well as the most popular cosplay costumes at Comic Con and fan events of the last 12 months.
13. Captain America
Most recently Chris Evans has portrayed Steve Rogers and his alter-ego Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since 2011, the character has appeared in three Captain America movies, as well as three Avengers movies. The most recent of these, 'Avengers: Infinity War' was released in April of this year, with another movie slated for 2019.
12. Elastigirl
It's taken Pixar 14 years to get round to making a sequel to their animated action hero movie, but 'Incredibles 2' broke records in cinemas over the summer, quickly becoming the highest grossing animated film of all time. Of course, if you need a stretchy outfit to dress as Helen Parr's superhero alter-ego Elastigirl, then the best person to ask is surely Edna.
11. Michael Myers
Michael Myers the serial killer from the 'Halloween' movies has been a popular costume choice for years, but this October, four decades after the original film was released, Michael Myers returns to the big screen. So, there's sure to be a bit of a resurgence in party goers wearing his trademark mask.
10. Newt Scamander
Set in the Harry Potter universe, Newt Scamander is a British wizard who has a fascination with unusual magical creatures. We first met Newt in the 2016 movie, 'Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them', which was set in 1920s New York, long before Harry's time at Hogwarts. This Halloween fans will be counting down the days until the November release of the movie's sequel, 'The Crimes Of Grindelwald'.
9. Mr. Incredible
Another fictional character who was popular in 2018 is our second from 'Incredibles 2'. The husband of the Elastogirl, Bob Parr. When he dons his uniform he becomes Mr. Incredible. An average dad turned hero with the power of super strength.
8. Lara Croft
Lara Croft is another favourite for fans of cosplay, helped by the fact that in the Spring she returned in her first feature film since 'The Cradle Of Life' 15 years ago. This time she's played by Swedish actress, Alicia Vikander. Lara's 2018 return to the big screen will cement her popularity as a Halloween costume, as will the character's cameo in Steven Spielberg's 'Ready Player One', which was also released this year.
7. Harley Quinn
Although Harley Quinn hasn't appeared as a leading character in a movie production since 2016, the DC Comics character has still been a firm favourite for those attending Comic Con events throughout 2018. The character was last seen, portrayed by Margot Robbie, in 'Suicide Squad', but she also appeared this year in the virtual nightclub scene in 'Ready Player One'.
6. Black Panther
Black Panther has been the big movie smash of the year and the highest grossing movie of the year. So, it's no surprise that T'Challa AKA Black Panther is a popular dress up costume in the run up to Halloween. The character, who also appeared in the 2018 'Avengers: Infinity War' movie is played by Chadwick Boseman, and he's set to reprise his role in the next Avengers movie, which is slated to be released next year.
5. Hela
'Thor: Ragnarok' was released in the cinema in 2017, but only a few days before Halloween so fans might not have had time to cobble together a horned costume resembling the Asgardian goddess of death, Hela, last year. The Marvel character is played by Cate Blanchett in the movie, which was released on DVD, Blu-ray and via streaming platforms in March of this year, meaning Halloween 2018 could be her time to reign.
4. Han Solo
Thanks to Alden Ehrenreich, you no longer have to dress like your dad to take on the character of the legendary Star Wars franchise, Han Solo. The character has been more famously played by Harrison Ford, but Alden took over the role for the 2018 movie 'Solo: A Star Wars Story' playing a younger, cooler version of the Han.
3. The Nun
Valak, the terrifying demon nun from 'The Conjuring' movie series returned to the big screen this year in her own spin-off feature, 'The Nun'. This is sure to make possessed nuns one of the most popular costumes this Halloween.
2. Deadpool
'Deadpool 2' is Ryan Reynolds' second highest-grossing film and one of the biggest films of 2018, so it's no surprise that his characters outfit is still a popular choice for fans of cosplay, with plenty of complete fancy dress costumes available in stores and online.
1. Thor
Surprisingly, the most popular costume of 2018 doesn't come from a movie that was released this year. It's the mighty Thor, played by the awesome Chris Hemsworth from the 2017 movie 'Thor: Ragnarok'. Thor did however make an appearance in the 2018 film, 'Avengers: Infinity War', keeping him fresh in everyone's minds. Thor is set to return in the next Avengers movie next year.
