More celebrities than you'd think believe in
paranormal phenomenon, surprising names like Nicolas Cage and Sting, but there are also celebrities who claim to have actually seen a ghostly apparition, like Miley Cyrus who was left terrified after seeing the ghost of a little boy sitting on her bathroom sink.
Below is a list of 42 famous people who all say they've either seen a ghost, communicated with spirits, or have lived in haunted houses.
1. Adele
The British singer told The Sun that she experienced odd happenings during her time living in her $11 million mansion in Sussex. She says that sooner after moving in she realised that the house was haunted and at one point the activity was so extreme that she was forced to hire her female driver as a paranormal bodyguard.
2. Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande stated in a 2013 interview that she has had experiences with ghosts and demons, "we were in Kansas City a few weeks ago and went to this haunted castle and were so excited." The next night she went to Stull Cemetery, which is known as one of the seven gates to hell on Earth. She said, "I felt this sick, overwhelming feeling of negativity over the whole car and we smelled sulphur, which is the sign of a demon, and there was a fly in the car randomly, which is another sign of a demon." The singer even claims that she took a photo and captured three "super distinct faces" in the picture, she said, "they're faces of textbook demons."
3. Cher
Cher has openly admitted that she's a believer and also says that she loves ghosts and is in contact with the spirit of her late husband Sonny, who died in 1998. She said, "I actually think that Sonny makes a light go on. I have a beautiful chandelier that he makes the light go on when it is impossible, there is no power on. I love ghosts, I prefer ghosts to some people."
4. Claudia Schiffer
While giving an interior design magazine a tour of her English Tudor mansion, Claudia Schiffer revealed that the home is haunted by some mischievous ghosts. The supermodel said, "we had a medium go around, and she told us that actually all the ghosts in the house are lovely. No one needs to be scared. We welcome all the ghosts, basically."
5. Daisy May & Charlie Cooper
Daisy May Cooper and Charlie Cooper, stars of the cult BBC Three comedy show, 'This Country', have followed in the footsteps of countless other paranormal investigators and braved a night at the infamous Ancient Ram In, one of the most haunted properties in the UK. Charlie, who plays Lee 'Kurtan' Mucklowe in the comedy series confessed to being a little obsessed with the ghost stories relating to the inn. He told a local paper, "we've been meaning to come here for years. We've watched every documentary, read so much about it. To be here now is amazing."
6. Demi Lovato
Demi Lovato claims that she shared her childhood home with a ghost. She said, "my house in Texas is so ridiculously haunted. Not by a bad spirit, but a little girl. I think her name is Emily. I've had a medium come over and ghost hunters, and they both told me the same name, Emily. There were so many times that I saw her when I was growing up."
7. Ellen DeGeneres
The US TV host said she's seen what she believes to be the ghost of a man in "turn-of-the-century clothes and a hat and a three-piece suit." She said, "it's weird, it's a very strange thing."
8. Emma Stone
Emma Stone told David Letterman that she had regular contact with her late grandfather. Speaking on 'The Late Show', the American actress said, "there's a long family history with quarters. My grandfather leaves quarters. It's him. It's absolutely him, it's not a logical thing, it's magical."
9. Ewan McGregor
Ewan McGregor told Seth Meyers that he was scared by a ghost on his 20th birthday during his time at drama school in London. The British actor said "I was standing running a bath, leaning in the doorway in a robe. I was suddenly struck with this pain in my back and I ripped off my robe and there was a big black burn mark on the back of my robe." Ewan said there was no logical explanation for what happened or how his robe ended up "singed" despite being alone at the time.
10. Gillian Anderson
'The X Files' star admitted that she's felt the presence of spooks. She said, "I've definitely felt other spirits, I'm quite sensitive to it. And yes. But it's not something you can really talk about with too many people, especially not me."
11. Helena Bonham Carter
When preparing to take on the role of Princess Margaret in 'The Crown', Helena Bonham Carter enlisted the help of a psychic medium to seek approval from the late royal herself. She said, "my main thing when you play someone who is real, you kind of want their blessing because you have a responsibility." Helena says that the late Princess approved of the casting and via the medium told her that she was "better than the other actress" they were considering.
12. Hillary Clinton
According to the 1996 book 'The Choice: How Bill Clinton Won' by Bob Woodward, Hillary Clinton admitted that she would ask the ghosts of Eleanor Roosevelt and Mahatma Gandhi for advice while she was serving as first lady.
13. Jennifer Aniston
The 'Friends' star told James Corden that her first house she lived in in Los Angeles was haunted and that the ghost hated her roommate. Speaking on 'The Late Show', Jennifer Aniston said, "all of a sudden, things started to happen. The dishwasher would start to go, the coffee maker would start to go. It was terrifying." Despite having the house spiritually cleansed, Jennifer ended up moving out due to the haunting.
14. Jessica Alba
Jessica Alba has confessed that she was tormented by an unseen force as a child in her parents' old house, something which one night took the covers off of her and pinned her down to her bed. She said, "I couldn't get up, I couldn't scream, I couldn't talk, I couldn't do anything." Her parents eventually got the house blessed and cleansed by burning sage.
15. Kate Hudson
In a 2014 interview, Kate Hudson told Alan Carr that she once saw "a ghost of a woman with no face," and that her and her mum "see dead people." She said, "it is not really seeing, it is feeling a spirit". She explained, "I believe in energy. I believe our brains can manifest into visual things."

16. Katie Price
The former model and self-made business woman claims that her nine-bedroom home, which previously belonged to Cabinet Office Minister Francis Maude, has been haunted since moving there in 2014. In fact, Katie Price says she has lived in several haunted houses and claims that ghosts are attracted to her aura. Speaking on daytime TV show 'Loose Women' about one of her previous homes, she said "I ended up finding out it had been built on a nursing home which had been knocked down. The orangery where the swimming pool was I found out was where they put the bodies and stuff. So many things happened there, with water and other stuff."
17. Katy Perry
Katy Perry had a terrifying experience while shooting a commercial for her perfume in a Beverly Hills mansion. She was alone in the master suite and saw a moustachioed man staring back at her in a mirror. The US singer ran from the room and down the enormous staircase, screaming at the top of her lungs, telling producers that she wanted to get out of the house immediately.

Ke$ha claims that she was forced to move out of her LA mansion because it was so haunted. Speaking in an interview with Conan O'Brien in 2012, the singer said that the haunting inspired the lyrics for her hit song, 'Tik Tok', as well as the song 'Supernatural'. Ke$ha said, "I don't know his name, but he was in my house."
19. Keanu Reeves
Keanu Reeves says that he witnessed a spook as a child living in New York. He said, "I'm probably like six, seven years old, we'd come from Australia. Renata, our nanny, in the bedroom, my sister is asleep, she's sitting over there, I'm hanging out. There was a doorway and all of a sudden this jacket comes waving through the doorway, this empty jacket - there's no body, there's no legs, it's just there. And then it disappears."

Kendall Jenner told Vogue that she experienced paranormal activity while living in her mother's haunted home. This included hearing unexplained sounds around the house. She said, "I would always hear footsteps on the roof when no one was home. I'm convinced it was a ghost."
21. Kendrick Lamar
Kendrick Lamar claims to have been visited in his sleep by the ghost of Tupac Shakur. Speaking in a radio interview, he said Tupac's silhouette came to him and said, "keep doing what you doing, don’t let my music die."
22. Kirstie Allsopp
The British property expert is the host of 'Location, Location, Location', but perhaps she should put house hunting aside in favour of some ghost hunting. Kirstie said, "I've been touched by a ghost. I was sitting on a bed and something touched me on the shoulder." She says that since this encounter she's been able to sense if a home is haunted.

'Twilight' star Kristen Stewart told Vanity Fair that she not only believes in ghosts, but talks to them. She said, "if I'm in a weird, small town, making a movie, and I'm in a strange apartment, I will literally be like, 'no, please, I cannot deal. Anyone else, but it cannot be me.' Who knows what ghosts are, but there is an energy that I'm really sensitive to. Not just with ghosts, but with people. People stain rooms all the time."
24. La Toya Jackson
La Toya Jackson says that she often feels the presence of her late brother, Michael, at their childhood home. She said, "it's the strangest thing because you feel something like thick around you or behind you and you're wondering - you don't see anything, but you feel a presence." The sound of phantom tap dancing has also been heard coming from Michael's former bedroom and security dogs are said to bark at the bedroom window for no reason.

Lady Gaga says that the ghost of fashion designer Alexander McQueen inspired her to write one of her hit singles, 'Born This Way'. The singer said, "right after he died, I wrote 'Born This Way.' I think he's up in heaven with fashion strings in his hands, marionetting away, planning this whole thing."

In 2020, Blue singer Lee Ryan found time to embark on a ghost hunt at the Old Victorian School in Nottingham. During the night-long investigation, the singer said that a ghost stroked his face and tugged his ear in the darkness.

'Charlie's Angels' star, Lucy Liu, claimed she was once intimate with a ghost. In a 1999 interview she said that she was trying to have a nap at home when "some sort of spirit came down from God knows where and made love to me." She described the encounter as "bliss" and said, "I felt everything. I climaxed. And then he floated away."

Matthew McConaughey says his Los Angeles home is haunted by a female spirit named Madame Blu and said that guests could feel her presence too. He said, "she wasn't that happy, just went away."
29. Melissa McCarthy
The 'Ghostbusters: Answer The Call' star had a real-life ghostly encounter as a child. She said, "I grew up on a farm and I didn't have any real friends," so instead she used to talk to ghosts. She continued, "I have a very strong belief that people are out there, because I was certainly talking to someone in those barns. Otherwise I'm just crazy. I really strongly believe in ghosts." Melissa also saw the ghost of her great grandmother three weeks after she died.
30. Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus claims she saw a ghost in her London home. She told Elle, "I thought I had seen a little boy sitting on the sink watching me take a shower, so I felt really freaked out." The singer described the encounter as "seriously so terrifying" and added that her mom, aunt, and fiancé at the time Liam Hemsworth all had "crazy experiences" in the flat after the shower incident. The paranormal activity resulted in Miley moving out of her home.

31. Nicolas Cage
Nicolas Cage once owned the allegedly very haunted LaLaurie House in New Orleans, the infamous murder mansion once owned by Madame Delphine LaLaurie. The actor told New York Daily News, "you know, other people have beachfront property, I have ghost-front property." He said, "I bought it in 2007, figuring it would be a good place in which to write the great American horror novel. I didn't get too far with the novel."
32. Paul Chuckle
Legendary kids' television presenter Paul Chuckle says that his late brother and comedy sidekick, Barry, has been visiting him in his dreams. Paul believes these visitations are Barry's way of showing him that there is an afterlife. The 'Chucklevision' star lost his older brother last year after a battle with bone cancer, but 71-year-old Paul has found comfort in his dreams, where he is reunited with Barry.
33. Paul O'Grady
British television presenter, Paul O'Grady, recently learned how to perform an exorcism in order to help the ghost of his showbiz pal, Cilla Black, move on. Paul, who's no stranger to ghost hunting, said he'd been aware of Cilla's presence around him since her death in 2015. He said, "I've been exorcising ghosts. I've actually been exorcising our Cilla. I was very conscious so I'm glad I've done it." Paul has been a regular guest on the long-running ghost hunting show 'Most Haunted', where he's attempted to track down spooks alongside former children's television star, Yvette Fielding.
34. Post Malone
Post Malone visited 'Ghost Adventures' star Zak Bagans' Haunted Museum in Las Vegas back in 2018. During his visit Zak introduced the Grammy award winning singer to the infamous cursed dybbuk box and removed the box's protective glass case and touched the box, before touching the rapper on the shoulder. Post now believes he has been cursed by the dybbuk. Speaking on 'Late Night With Seth Meyers' the singer said, "it's weird because after we opened up this creepy, creepy dybbuk box, I got in a car accident, I almost had a plane wreck, my house got broken into, all that type of stuff, but it was just within a month's time. It was really really odd."
35. Kerry Katona
Over Halloween 2021, Kerry Katona appeared in the British reality TV show, 'Celebrity Ghost Trip', in which she seemed pretty spooked by the ghostly activities laid on by tour guide Brendan Sheerin. But since, the former Atomic Kitten singer has been creeped out by strange goings on in her new home. Kerry and her children have reported seeing lights flickering for no obvious reason. Writing in her magazine column, Kerry said "I've been left feeling a bit spooked after having some strange goings-on in the house. I was sitting in my living room and the light kept flickering, so I started filming it. A green light appeared on the video before it disappeared behind my sofa and then an orb started floating towards the camera."
36. Rihanna
Rihanna believes so strongly in the supernatural that she refuses to visit the infamous Hollywood hotel, Chateau Marmont because she thinks it's haunted. Talking about the hotel, the singer said, "you can feel it, man. It's borrowed space." The hotel gained its sinister reputation after John Belushi died there and based on reports from guests and employees who have reported paranormal activity.
37. Robbie Williams
Robbie Williams is no stranger to things that go bump in the night. He claims his family home in Wiltshire is haunted. He said in a live stream on Instagram, "we have got a very, very old property. It is like a thousand years old. There is one room that I am suspicious of. It gives me the creeps. Teddy, our daughter, was sleeping in there. She doesn't anymore." Robbie also believed that his LA mansion that he once rented from 'Ghostbusters' star Dan Aykroyd was haunted by one of the house's former residents, Mamas and Papas singer Cass Elliot, also known as Mama Cass.

British comedian, Roisin Conaty was recently "logic bombed" by fellow comedian David Mitchell when she confessed that she believed in ghosts on the BBC panel show, 'Would I Lie To You?'.
The ever-logical star of 'Peep Show' launched into a rant about spooks, asking Conaty, "why do you believe in ghosts? They patently do not exist." He then explained, "if ghosts exist, why are they always in isolated places rather than absolutely cramming central London?" David argued that people have been living and dying in misery in Central London for 2,000 years. He said, "you shouldn't be able to move for ghouls, and yet you don't see them there in the modern office blocks. Oh no, it's in one pub where a total of 2,000 people have lived ever, that's where the ghosts hang out. It doesn't make any sense."
39. Selena Gomez
Selena Gomez confessed that she believes in ghosts during an appearance on 'The Tonight Show' in 2015. She told Jimmy Fallon, "I believe in ghosts, so I have a ghost app. I believe that spirits can tap into technology. Why not, right?"
40. Sting
Sting told Jimmy Fallon in an interview that he "never believed in ghosts" and was "very skeptical about them until I lived with them." He claims that his London home was haunted by a female ghost and the spirit of a child. Every morning he'd find that things had been reorganised in the kitchen. He said, "furniture was in a different place, bottles were smashed, plates were smashed on the floor."
41. Susan Boyle
Susan Boyle once claimed in an interview that she'd seen her late mother's spirit. She said, "her energy is still there. I've actually seen my mother in the house. I think she was letting me know she was all right. There was a lovely smell."
42. Uri Geller
The celebrity spoon bender is no stranger to paranormal investigation having appeared alongside Yvette Fielding in an episode of 'Most Haunted'. The television psychic also confessed in an interview that he believes in ghosts. He said, "I believe in the spirit and in re-incarnation. I am deeply religious and believe in the soul – the life energy behind people."
