Tonight's episode of 'Celebrity Help! My House Is Haunted' marks the end of the current Discovery+ series. It's been a great run, starting out with a super-clear ghostly voice captured at Louie Spence's Chelmsford home. The team also visited the homes of Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, Marnie Simpson and 'Coronation Street' star Simon Gregson. Last week they embarked on an emotional investigation in Colchester in the home of singer and reality TV star Jake Quickenden.
Barri Ghai, Jayne Harris and Ian Lawman have delivered a great and entertaining series to date and I always do my best to support the show. I of course watch every episode, review the episodes and post about them on social media. 'Help! My House Is Haunted' is currently the most loved British paranormal show on television and is worthy of my time and attention.
However, episode six is problematic for me. This time the team visit the home of Lady Colin Campbell. To be totally honest, I'd never heard of this apparently well-known author, socialite and television personality, but after a quick dig around on Google, it seems that Lady C has risen to celebrity status by appearing on 'I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!' in 2015 and has since appeared in various other celebrity reality shows, including 'Celebs Go Dating' and 'Celebs On The Farm'.
Lady C lives in the 19th century Goring Castle, which sits on the south coast. It sounds like a fascinating location with its long and treacherous history with terrifying tales of female spirits stalking her guests. It sounds like the gothic castle in West Sussex has the potential to be the most interesting location of the series. The socialite has called the team in to get to the bottom of who she's sharing her home with.
Googling a little deeper into Lady C's apparent fame brought up some stories more chilling than any haunting. In 2019, Lady C appeared on 'Good Morning Britain' to talk about the controversy surrounding Prince Andrew. Not only did she defend the disgraced prince, but she also spoke openly about his associations with the convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, who took his own life in prison in 2019.
Lady C shamelessly claimed that Epstein isn't a pedophile but an ephebophile, a dated term that refers to someone who is attracted to adolescents aged between 15 and 19. This is all a bit deep for a paranormal entertainment website, but basically what Lady C was saying is that Epstein's actions should be seen as different from those of a pedophile, even though no legal difference exists. However, she did stop short of defending Epstein's predatory advances on this age group.
I think you'd be hard pushed to find anyone who agrees with Lady C's controversial view on Epstein's crimes, which he pleaded guilty to before his death. No matter what your political views are, I think it's fair to say that most would find Lady C's views distasteful.
This made it hard to justify featuring Lady C on the website. I debated this conundrum and eventually decided that, not only could I not bring myself to watch Lady C in an episode of one of my favourite paranormal shows, but I didn't want to add to her profile in any way.
So, after watching all 62 previous episodes of the show, this week I'm going to give 'Celebrity Help! My House Is Haunted' a miss. As a supporter of the show, this is a difficult move for me and perhaps I'm over reacting, but morally and ethically I just can't recommend this episode to my readers and would go as far as to say that others should boycott this particular episode too.
On a lighter note: Barri, Jayne and Ian have been travelling the UK busy filming a fifth series of 'Help! My House Is Haunted', which will likely land on Discovery+ later this year. Until then, you can watch the whole of the latest series of 'Celebrity Help! My House Is Haunted' on Discovery+ now, as well as all previous episodes of the show.
