In 2024, we were treated to rare sightings of the aurora borealis in the UK, with vivid displays lighting up the skies in May and other dates throughout the year. As the Sun reaches the peak of its 11-year activity cycle, these mesmerising northern lights could continue to grace the skies in 2025. Caused by solar particles colliding with Earth's atmosphere, the aurora is typically seen in northern latitudes but may stretch further south during strong geomagnetic storms. Keep an eye on space weather forecasts for your chance to witness this awe-inspiring phenomenon close to home.
