A Connecticut police officer has come forward with a tale of a close encounter with a UFO. Robert Klein, a veteran law enforcement officer with 25 years of service, shared his experience in an exclusive interview on NewsNation with Ashleigh Banfield. Until now, Klein had only confided in a few colleagues about what he saw that April night in 2022.
The sighting took place during Klein's overnight shift in Lower Fairfield County, just 40 minutes north of New York City. As Ashleigh described during the interview, Klein is a family man and a respected officer - details that add credibility to his account.
Speaking on NewsNation, Klein recalled the event vividly. Driving along a remote road bordering a lake, his patrol car was unexpectedly flooded with an intense light. "All of a sudden from my left-rear, there was this really strong light," he said. "It lit up the entire cab of my cruiser to the point where I was having a hard time driving because I really couldn't see - I was blinded by it."
The mysterious light wasn't silent either. Klein described it as emitting a distinct low hum, a detail that adds to the peculiarity of the encounter. He immediately stopped his vehicle, rolled down the window, and tried to locate the source of the light. That's when things became even stranger.
Klein described a spherical object hovering just 30 feet away from him, likening its size to a Mini Cooper. "It was a perfect sphere and almost looked like plasma moving constantly. It was changing colours - from red, to green, to white, and then it repeated," he said.
This was unlike anything he'd encountered in his long career. "I was perplexed and confused by what I was looking at," Klein admitted. "I'd never in 25 years working as a police officer encountered anything like this."
You can hear Robert Klein's full description of his encounter in the video below, which features the full interview, as well as analysis from UFO investigator Ben Hansen.
Still unsure what he was looking at, Klein shone his spotlight at the object. The response was instantaneous. "As soon as I hit it with my spotlight, it instantaneously moved across the body of water," he said. "It was instantaneous - it was there, and then it wasn't. I couldn't see it move from Point A to Point B, that's how fast it moved."
Klein quickly took out his camera, realising the importance of documenting the event. Despite capturing footage, the mystery of what he saw remains unsolved. "It wasn't a drone, I can guarantee you that. To this day, I'm still perplexed."
Ashleigh also invited Ben Hansen, host of Discovery+'s 'UFO Witness', to weigh in on Klein's account. Hansen, a former FBI agent and expert on aerial phenomena, was the first person Klein opened up to about the sighting.
Hansen talked about the credibility of Klein's testimony. "When you have witness that comes that close, especially somebody in a law enforcement capacity, skeptics will try and look at the video and say, 'okay, well, this could be any number of thing'," he said. "But you can't dismiss the beginning of the event where unmistakably you have something the size of a car."
Hansen commended Klein's decision to come forward, highlighting the importance of credible witnesses in UFO research. "He gave an amazing interview, and to have the video itself is icing on the cake."
Officer Klein's sighting adds to a growing catalogue of UFO encounters reported by credible witnesses, including military and law enforcement professionals. The true nature of the glowing sphere remains unclear, but for Klein, the encounter was unforgettable.
