Fans of the iconic 'Ghostbusters' franchise have a new reason to get excited. It has been announced that a future episode of the Netflix docuseries 'The Toys That Made Us' will focus on the beloved Ghostbusters toys from the 1980s and 1990s. The announcement was made during 'The Toys That Made Us' panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego, held at the San Diego Convention Center from 25 July to 28 July 2024.
The panel, hosted by the series creator Brian Volk-Weiss, revealed that the upcoming episode will offer a comprehensive look at the range of Ghostbusters toys produced over the last 40 years. These toys, inspired by both the movie franchise and the animated series 'The Real Ghostbusters', have been cherished by generations of fans.
Among the iconic toys to be featured are the famous proton pack and PKE meter, essential gadgets for any aspiring ghostbuster. The Proton Blaster, known for shooting foam projectiles, replica ghost traps, and action figures of the characters, from the original Ghostbusters team to various ghosts and ghouls, will also be highlighted.
Although Netflix has not yet released an exact date for the series, it has been confirmed that two new seasons are in the works. The episode dedicated to Ghostbusters toys will be part of the second of these upcoming seasons. Alongside Ghostbusters, other classic toys such as Nerf, Pokemon, Hot Wheels, and Polly Pocket will also be explored.
This isn't the first time 'Ghostbusters' has been celebrated by Netflix. The film that inspired the toy line was previously honoured in the sister series 'The Movies That Made Us', also executive produced by Brian Volk-Weiss. That episode delved into how 'Ghostbusters' changed the landscape of cinema and inspired countless fans and filmmakers.
For those who grew up with the 'Ghostbusters' toys or those who have discovered them through the recent films and reboots, this episode promises to be a nostalgic journey through one of the most memorable toy lines in history. Keep an eye on Netflix for the release date, and get ready to relive the excitement of being a part of the Ghostbusters team.
