Last weekend, NewsNation aired intriguing new footage that allegedly shows a secret military Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) crash retrieval mission.

The 11-second video appears to show a smooth, white, egg-shaped object, approximately six metres long, suspended beneath a helicopter on a long rope. The clip seems to have been filmed from another screen, likely part of an in-aircraft night vision system, given the artefacts visible in the footage. The object lacks any visible markings, engines, or wings, leaving no obvious indication of how it could move or function.

The footage was part of a special report hosted by investigative journalist Ross Coulthart. It included statements from whistleblower Jake Barber, a decorated former US Air Force pilot. Barber claims to have been contracted as a helicopter pilot to recover crash debris, including objects of non-human origin. His testimony adds weight to longstanding allegations from figures like David Grusch and Luis Elizondo, who have spoken about secret UAP retrieval programmes.

For further insight, NewsNation's Natasha Zouves interviewed British UFO expert Nick Pope, who formerly investigated UFO reports for the UK Ministry of Defence.
When asked for his thoughts on the footage, Nick said, "It's consistent with some," before adding, "This story is going viral on social media - everyone's got an opinion on it."

Nick pointed out the object's unusual design, "There's no visible means of propulsion here - no wings, no fuselage, no engines. If this is some sort of reconnaissance device, for example, the Pentagon could very quickly put this whole story to bed by saying, 'Look, what you're looking at in this footage is X'. But as far as I'm aware, they've not done that, so the mystery continues."

Nick stressed the need for more details: "The picture only tells us so much. What we really need now is more information. Where was this picked up? Where was it dropped off? Where is it now?"

Natasha also asked Nick about Jake Barber's claims, particularly his assertion that he has participated in retrieving craft of non-human origin. Barber's raw emotional reaction, which was evident during his interview, stood out to Nick, "Clearly, the raw emotion that we saw from him was visceral, and this sort of reaction is very interesting."

Nick noted that the matter is being taken seriously, "My understanding is that this is now with the Senate Intelligence Committee. I don't know whether he has formally testified behind closed doors or just had informal discussions with staffers, but they've got to get to the bottom of this. They - and indeed others in Congress - have now got to take his story, piece it together with what we're being told by people like David Grusch and Luis Elizondo and really say what the big picture is here."

During Ross Coulthart's special, Jake also described an encounter with a UAP he called the "Eightgon," a flying disc with eight visible sections. Jake claimed that during the retrieval mission, he experienced an overwhelming emotional response, which he attributed to telepathic communication with a non-human intelligence. He told Ross, "That object, or whatever was controlling that object, was also connecting to me through my mind."

When Natasha asked Nick if such claims undermined Barber's credibility, Nick explained that this kind of emotional reaction is not unheard of. He explained, "I've absolutely seen this emotional response that witnesses have when they're up close and personal with something like this. Now, we don't know whether it comes from the individuals themselves or whether it's an external stimulus, but it's an area that needs further research."

There's no denying that the footage has been a major talking point in the paranormal world over the last few days, and Nick's cautious analysis reminds us that while the footage is compelling, it is inconclusive and more information is needed to truly understand what we're seeing.
