paranormal television shows due to drop this year. Some of the big upcoming paranormal movies were originally penned for release in 2020, but were delayed due to the pandemic.
Below you can find out about all this year's biggest releases that we know of so far and get details of new and returning ghost hunting television shows from the UK and USA, Hollywood blockbusters, and dates to remember.
Paranormal Television Airing In 2021
Expedition Bigfoot
Returning to the Travel Channel in the US this month, the 'Expedition Bigfoot' team reassembled to review their findings from last season and reevaluate the algorithm to respond to the uptick in Bigfoot sightings just this year, in the new one-hour special premiering on Sunday, January 3. Then the team hit the ground running for an exciting season two. The series and special may appear on the Really channel or Discovery+ in the UK later in the year.

Zak Bagans leads the first paranormal investigation of the infamous Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles, a paranormal hotspot that has long been on Zak's bucket list. The episode will premiere on Discovery+ in the US when it launches this week.
Stationed along downtown Los Angeles' Main Street stands the infamous Cecil Hotel with a checkered past, beset by multiple suicides, murders, devil worshipping and serial killers. Riddled with stories of paranormal activity, the historic building is the epitome of creepy – an inspiration for books, films and even a season of the 'American Horror Story' series. Now, for the first time ever, the Cecil Hotel is allowing cameras inside for an investigation of ghostly proportions in this two-hour special. The 'Ghost Adventures' team – Zak Bagans, Aaron Goodwin, Jay Wasley and Billy Tolley – begin their investigation retracing the steps of the recent mysterious death of a young girl named Elisa Lam, whose body was found in the hotel's water tower without any explanation as to what may have happened. Her peculiar demise remains unsolved and bizarre elevator surveillance video of Lam has fuelled an abundance of theories, including that of supernatural forces.
The special may appear on the Really channel or Discovery+ in the UK later in the year.
Help! My House Is Haunted
The second series of 'Help! My House Is Haunted' aired at the beginning of 2020 and saw three paranormal experts travel the UK tackle 12 new cases at a new selection of haunted locations. They aimed to help families living in haunted homes, using the the latest technology to try to capture never before seen proof of the paranormal.
The show is due to return, but production has been delayed due to the pandemic. Hopefully the team consisting of Chris Fleming - a world renowned psychic who can see and talk to spirits directly, Jayne Harris - a self-styled "ghostorian", and Barri Ghai - the show's tech expert can get out on the road to film series three soon in time to air this year.
His Dark Materials
There's no release date on this one yet, but BBC One and HBO have announce that the internationally successful co-production 'His Dark Materials', has been commissioned for a third season.
The commission will be based on The Amber Spyglass, the third part of Philip Pullman’s original trilogy of novels, and will star Dafne Keene as Lyra, Amir Wilson as Will, Ruth Wilson as Mrs Coulter, Simone Kirby as Mary Malone, Ruta Gedmintas as Serafina Pekkala, Jade Anouka as Ruta Skadi and James McAvoy as Lord Asriel.
Kindred Spirits
Professional paranormal investigators Amy Bruni, Adam Berry and psychic medium Chip Coffey are used to communicating with ghosts. But with paranormal activity more rampant than ever, they're facing hauntings unlike anything they've seen yet in the new 10-episode season of 'Kindred Spirits', premiering Saturday, January 2 on the US Travel Channel. The series may appear on the Really channel or Discovery+ in the UK later in the year.
Most Haunted
For the last year Yvette Fielding and the 'Most Haunted' team have been releasing full episodes and additional content on their official YouTube channel. Although they've not yet announced any plans, the team are likely to continue bringing fans new content on YouTube this year, perhaps even more live investigations once coronavirus restrictions are relaxed.
Paranormal: Captured
The first series of the British paranormal show aired in 2019, but returned in December for a one-off Christmas special, 'The Dead of Winter'. We're hoping that now the team have reunited they will return for a full second series later this year.
Stranger Things
The fourth season of the show was originally due to drop on Netflix last year, but the release was pushed back due to the global COVID-19 crisis, which temporarily halted production of the show. Although we don't yet know a new release date for the next season, we do know that it is due some time this year.
The last season wrapped up the story with the gang going their own separate ways, so we were left wondering where the fourth instalment would take place and which of the cast would return.
An earlier trailer for the fourth season included the strap line "we're not in Hawkins anymore." This 'Wizard Of Oz' reference implies that 'Stranger Things' is making the expected move to setting the next season outside of Hawkins.
Surviving Death
Coming to Netflix on January 6 from director and executive producer, Ricki Stern (Reversing Roe, Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work), and based on best-selling author and journalist Leslie Kean’s book, Surviving Death is an in-depth investigative series exploring the possibility of an afterlife. Over six episodes, Surviving Death explores questions that have been contemplated throughout time: What does it mean to die, and is death the end of our existence? Weaving together innovative new research with firsthand accounts from those who’ve been close to—and even experienced—death, the series takes viewers on an extraordinary journey into a world beyond human existence as we know it.
The Haunted Hunts
After a busy 2020, Danny Moss and 'The Haunted Hunts' team are set to return this year with their fourth series, 'Project Invocation'.
Danny, Becki, Emma, Charlie and Rox will begin the early stages of production in January as the team take on a whole new challenge designed to test the teams bravery while investigating 10 secret locations which all have one thing in common... they're allegedly very haunted.
Paranormal Movie Releases In 2021
A Quiet Place Part II
The sequel to the 2018 movie was originally due to be released in 2020, but was pushed back due to the pandemic.
The follow-up continues the story of the Abbott family now face the terrors of the outside world. Forced to venture into the unknown, they realise the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats lurking beyond the sand path.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife
'Ghostbusters: Afterlife' had its cinema release pushed back from July 2020 to March 5th 2021.
Director Jason Reitman's, who also co-wrote the upcoming movie, is the son of Ivan Reitman, the director of the original two films. In fact Jason even appeared in 'Ghostbusters II' as the bratty kid near the start of the movie. He tells Ray that, according to his dad, the Ghostbusters are "full of crap".
The new movie will star Bokeem Woodbine and Paul Rudd, who revealed his involvement in the project in a viral video last year. The US comedian and actor announced the news in a selfie-style video shot outside the iconic New York fire station which was used as the exterior of the gang's headquarters in the original 80s supernatural comedy movies.
Halloween Kills
The saga of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode continues in the next thrilling chapter of the Halloween series. The latest movie in the franchise is due to be released in time for Halloween 2021.
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It
The third movie in 'The Conjuring' series tells a chilling story of terror, murder and unknown evil that shocked even experienced real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga). One of the most sensational cases from their files, it starts with a fight for the soul of a young boy, then takes them beyond anything they'd ever seen before, to mark the first time in U.S. history that a murder suspect would claim demonic possession as a defence. A trailer for the project is expected to drop this month.
