'Devil's Road: The True Story Of Ed & Lorraine Warren' a film about the famed husband-and-wife paranormal team has picked up the gold award for the Best Paranormal Documentary of 2020.
The one-off television documentary explores the story behind paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. Over their 50-year career, the Warrens investigated thousands of hauntings, including the famous Amityville case and the real-life Rhode Island home that 'The Conjuring' is based on.
The win was announced during this year's Paranormal Entertainment Awards, which were dished out during an online virtual event that was watched by thousands of fans of supernatural entertainment and ghost hunting. 'Devil's Road' was just one of a whole list of shows, paranormal teams and individuals who were honoured in the third annual event. You can see the full list of winners here.
The winners were selected by the public who voted more than 75,000 times on a shortlist made up of paranormal entertainment that was nominated by the public earlier in the year.
The documentary was part of a new "shockumentary" series commissioned by the US Travel Channel, but also aired on British sister channel, Really over Halloween.
During the 1970s and 1980s, the Warrens made numerous appearances on television talking about their cases and spreading the word about the paranormal and preternatural worlds that exist all around us. Their life's mission: to prove the existence of good and evil; God and the Devil.
Along the way, they pioneered many techniques still used in the field today, including audio and visual recording devices, advanced electromagnetic devices and even produced their own television show.
Silver: 'The House In Between'
The silver award in the category went to Steve Gonsalves and Kendall Whelpton's 'The House In Between'.
The film is the must-see paranormal documentary of 2020 that will leave even the most skeptical viewer scratching their head. The film tells the story of a ten-year investigation which resulted in a string of fascinating activity caught on camera.
Eventually the home's owner got in touch with Steve Gonsalves. She hoped that with nearly 20 years of experience in the paranormal field, if anyone can get to the bottom of the weird goings on, he can. Steve is best known for his appearances in 'Ghost Hunters' and 'Ghost Nation', and co-directs 'The House In Between' with Kendall Whelpton, who also worked on 'Ghost Hunters' as a cinematographer.
