Tiny Terrors: The Scariest Kids in Horror Movies

Creepy children and horror movies go hand-in-hand and these pint-sized but truly terrifying kids have been haunting us for the better part of a century, but what is it about scary kids in horror movies that works so well?

Perhaps it's the start contrast of innocent children in reality versus the demonic children that appear in the fictional world of horror. Whatever the reason for their unsettling presence in films, children continue to be some of the scariest elements in horror movies. With this in mind, we've put together a brief history of some of the scariest children in the genre.

The list features only the most "evil" children in chronological order, which excludes the nicer kids from movies like Cole Sear in 'The Sixth Sense' and Carol Anne from 'Poltergeist'.

The list starts with eight-year-old Rhoda Penmark, played by Patty MacCormack in 'The Bad Seed' from 1956. We then move on to David Zellaby be played by Martin Stephens in 'Village Of The Damned' from 1960, creepy even at three years of age. In 1973, we met the infamous Reagan MacNeil played by Linda Blair in 'The Exorcist'. Another iconic movie, 'The Omen', in 1976 introduced to Damian Thorn, played by Harvey Stevens.

Next up is Michael Myers, the sinister murderer at the heart of the 'Halloween' movies, played in 1978 by Will Sanden and who can forget the terrifying Grady twins in the 1980s classic, 'The Shining'. The two creepy girls seen by Danny Torrance were played by Lisa and Louise Burns.

In the 1984 psychological thriller, 'Children Of The Corn', Isaac Chroner played by Jonathan Franklin was the creepy kid causing all the scares, the movie also featured Courtney Gains as Malachi Boardman. At 18-years-old she's the oldest creepy kid on our list.

In the 1989 movie, 'Pet Sematary', Miko Hughes took on the role of Gage Creed, another creepy three-year-old, and Henry Evans, played by 'Home Alone' star Macaulay Culkin, featured in 'The Good Son' in 1993.

Toshio Saeki was the creepy six-year-old who featured in the Japanese supernatural horror film, 'Ju-on: The Grudge' and in 'The Ring', Samara Morgan was the creepy girl from the bottom of the well. The list ends in 2007 with Tomás from 'The Orphanage', played by Óscar Casas.

There are so many famous horror children that we couldn't possibly list them all. Which horror child scares you the most? Are there any kids that need an honourable mention? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
