The #UncannyCommunity is in for a treat as the hit show 'Uncanny' returns to BBC Two and iPlayer for a brand-new series on Friday, January 31. Based on the hugely popular BBC Radio 4 podcast, the first series of the chilling TV adaptation aired in 2023 and is set to deliver more spine-tingling stories of supernatural encounters in its latest season.
Hosted by award-winning writer and broadcaster Danny Robins, 'Uncanny' delves into real-life stories of seemingly
paranormal experiences that defy logical explanation. The series combines gripping storytelling with expert analysis from familiar faces Dr Ciarán O'Keeffe and Evelyn Hollow, who return to provide their unique perspectives on each investigation.
Danny expressed his excitement for the show's return, saying, "'Uncanny' is coming back to haunt your screens again! I've been blown away and moved by the response to our first season, and I'm grateful to the BBC for supporting us in making something that feels really different I hope to anything else out there. It was a thrill to see fans of the podcast loving it, but also to welcome a whole new audience. What I love about 'Uncanny' is that, whether you're Team Believer, Team Sceptic or Team Not Sure, you can enjoy the mystery of these stories in your own way. I can't wait to bring you another set of brand new cases to investigate. Get ready to meet some truly compelling witnesses telling you about some terrifyingly extraordinary events. But are they genuinely paranormal? Let's see... but I can tell you they are definitely bloody scary."
The BBC's Head of Commissioning for Specialist Factual television, Jack Bootle, added, "Danny is a master storyteller and I can't wait to hear more about the spine-chilling new cases he's investigating. I'm delighted the series is returning to our screens – and our nightmares – soon."
The show's interactive element will once again play a crucial role, as Alan Holland, Head of Specialist Factual Productions at BBC Studios, explained: "We were absolutely blown away with the theories and interaction from viewers last series, and can't wait to hear even more from them this time round. The direction of the series will be well and truly in their hands to influence!"
This year, 'Uncanny' fans can enjoy an even deeper dive into the mysteries with the introduction of 'Uncanny: Post Mortem,' a visualised podcast airing on BBC Two immediately after each episode of the main show. Hosted by Danny, the spin-off will feature celebrity ghost watchers such as Kiell Smith-Bynoe, Meera Syal, and Charlie Cooper, alongside 'Uncanny' experts and the lead witnesses from each case. An extended version of the podcast will also be available on BBC Sounds.
Danny described the new addition as the perfect follow-up to each episode: "Our 'Uncanny' cases are so intriguing and frankly bloody frightening that after watching an episode you always want to discuss it - chatting over theories on what happened and that biggest of all questions "do ghosts exist?" So now, brilliantly, we can do that in 'Uncanny: Post Mortem', directly after the main show. It's the kind of delicious deep dive you will be desperate to do after getting hooked on each of these strange chilling cases. You'll hear more from me, our experts, witnesses and some brilliant celebrity 'Uncanny' fans. Expect new evidence and new leads! I can't wait!"
The BBC Podcast & Formats Commissioner, Rhian Roberts said: "The 'Uncanny' podcast has been going since 2021, with the TV show joining the 'Uncanny' universe last year. We know listeners and viewers absolutely love it, adding a visualised podcast is a great next step. 'Uncanny: Post Mortem' will be where to head to find out just how freaked out we all were, we can be scared together! There are always so many fascinating questions that come into us after an episode of 'Uncanny', it's going to be brilliant to have another place to share theories."
Jack Bootle echoed this sentiment: "'Uncanny: Post Mortem' allows us to take a deeper dive into these spine-tingling stories, and to hear from celebrity fans of the series who may have had their own paranormal experiences. Friday night on BBC Two is about to become very spooky. Watch if you dare."
With the return of 'Uncanny' and the launch of 'Uncanny: Post Mortem,' Friday nights are set to become unmissable for fans of the paranormal. Whether you're team believer, team sceptic, or somewhere in between, make sure you don't miss the first episode on BBC Two and iPlayer on Friday, January 31.
