What do you do when you can't leave the house to get to a paranormal convention? Simple, wait for the convention to come to you.
Haunt Jaunts, the Haunted Antiques Paranormal Research Centre (HAPRC) and Haunted Magazine have teamed up to bring fans of the paranormal stuck at home due to the covid-19 lockdown a virtual paranormal convention. The online event will be free to view on Facebook and will take place on National Paranormal Day, Sunday May 3rd, 2020.
The event was the brainchild of Courtney Mroch, who runs the website Haunt Jaunts, a blog dedicated to the darker side of travel. She broke the news of the event on Twitter, "Paranormal Day is coming! Social distance at home in a spirited way." They teased followers with the promise of "TONS of para peeps" and paranormal collaboration the likes of which the internet has never seen before.
The event will bring together paranormal experts, enthusiasts and ghost hunters from across the UK and from the United States. Courtney said in a live video chat on HAPRC's pages, "I like to call it a 'fab collab'."
Paul Stevenson, editor of the award winning Haunted Magazine which is co-hosting the event, tweeted about the 12-hour event taking place on #ParanormalDay. He wrote, "imagine a #Paracon where you can #StaySafe at home, in your PJS, no makeup, no judgement feat paranormal peeps from across the globe spreading the spirit during #Lockdown."
Speaking with HAPRC, Paul said "it's a great idea. It's something we can all do on a day when we can't go ghost hunting, we can't go to locations at all and spend time together."
Haunted Antiques Paranormal Research Centre, who are also co-hosting the events, houses a collection of unusual and spooky artefacts in a hands-on paranormal events space in Hinckley, Leicestershire. Speaking about the paracon the centre's owner, Neil Packer, said "I think it's something that the field needed, because there's so much negativity."
Paul added, "I think this Sunday is going to be great. The people and the diverse range of topics as well, that's what I'm looking forward to. It's not just ghosts and spooks, it's so many amazing topics."

The event kicks off on Facebook at 4pm BST on Sunday 3rd May with special guest Richard Estep, an author who's known for his appearances on 'Haunted Hospitals' and 'Paranormal 911'.
From there the team behind paracon have an ambitious plan to bring fans of the paranormal 12 hours of speakers, interviews, shows, screenings, seminars and live Q&As. Those virtually attending the event will have the freedom to choose which sessions to attend, all of which will be accessible via the event's Facebook page.
As you might expect for an event of this duration, there's an extensive list of guests and speakers. Highlights include the British paranormal historian and podcast host Penny Griffiths-Morgan, Sara and Phil Whyman from the back-to-basics ghost hunting series 'Are You Haunted?', and author Troy Taylor who recently collaborated with Zak Bagans on his 'Ghost Hunting For Dummies' book.
Also look out for presentation from two of the stars of Really's 'Help! My House Is Haunted', Jayne Harris and Barri Ghai. Jayne will be telling us the curious story of 'who put Bella in the Wych Elm?', while Barri will be recapping five of the best locations from the series.
