2017 was the year when Britain started it divorce proceedings with the rest of Europe, everyone had to have a fidget spinners, the US experienced a solar eclipse, and a large-scale cyberattack knocked out computers in 150 countries around the world.
Some of the greatest life lessons of 2017 have been passed on to us from the likes of Professor Brian Cox, President Trump, and Ariana Grande.
1. It's Very Difficult To Argue With An Idiot

Professor Brian Cox gave his opinion on the rise in believers of the Flat Earth theory in an interview with the website IFLScience. The physicist said "I don't think you can change the opinion of people who are just ridiculous."
Cox explained how he thinks flat Earthers represent "the most ridiculous example of not thinking that you can possibly imagine," and while it seems the professor is keen not to waste his time trying to convince them of the undeniable truth, he does have a solution, "I think what you can do is just turn them into laughing stocks, which is I think my general approach to people."
Professor Cox went on to say "it's very difficult to argue with an idiot. Particularly in a forum such as a chat show where you've got a limited amount of time. So my view is you have to sort of essentially show them up to be fools as quickly as possible. I think that's the only way you can proceed."
2. You Should Lock The Office Door When Doing TV Interviews From Home

It has to be one of the funniest moments of the year and it happened live on the BBC. Professor Robert Kelly was being interviewed for BBC News about South Korea.
Kelly was speaking live from his home office, but struggled to maintain his composure when his two young children ran into the room.
Moments later, his wife Jung-a Kim rushed into the room and ushered the kids out before diving towards the door in order to close it and restore the peace.
The video, which has been viewed 25 million times on YouTube, became the 10th biggest viral video of the year.
3. Donald Trump Isn't Great At Drawing

In January Donald Trump signed an executive order bringing in to effect his controversial travel ban. Thanks to some clever editing, Trump's proud moment became one huge joke. A joke that got retweeted 59k times.
The account responsible for the meme, @TrumpDraws now has almost half a million followers and has depicted the president drawing everything from a dinosaur to Spongebob.
4. Lip Reading Isn't Always Reliable
Trump also became one of the biggest viral videos of the year, not because of his politics or good deeds... again, it was a video making him look like a fool that racked up the most views.
The YouTube channel Bad Lip Reading shared their interpretation of what Trump, Obama, Clinton, and other notable US politicians were saying during the new president's inauguration.
The video contains some amazing quotes, like Trump telling his predecessor, "I pretend to like you, but I hate you inside."
5. Lots Of Things Rhyme With Elf On The Shelf

The Elf on the Shelf was a huge last Christmas and we all thought we'd seen the last of him when he was packed away in to a box of decoration and put in the attic, but the magical elf made a surprise reappearance in the summer when rhyming memes started circulating.
The basis of the meme was presenting an image that rhymed with Elf on the Shelf and was accompanied with the caption, "you've heard of Elf on the Shelf, now get ready for..."
The memes featured everything from Shrek on a deck, to Drake on the Cake, and one for Harry Potter fans... Snape on a grape.
6. We Shouldn't Spy On Our Crush From The Bushes
In July, a heart warming animation taught us that we shouldn't spy on our crushes from a bush like a mad stalker, it's much better to follow your heart.
The short film by Beth David and Esteban Bravo is one of the most viewed videos of 2017 and tells the story of a closeted boy who runs the risk of being outed by his own heart after it pops out of his chest to chase down the boy of his dreams.
7. You Can't Kneel On A Small Wooden Stool

An Ariana Grande fan invested some time in trying to recreate the cover of the singer's 2014 album, 'My Everything'. It seems some fans have been confused by Ariana's cover stance, but Jesse McLaren finally proved once and for all that kneeling on a chair and looking good is impossible.
Jesse, who describes herself as an Internet humorist, posted her attempt on Twitter in October, it went on to get over 125k re-tweets.
