Today is World Contact Day, an annual event held every March 15th when people around the world attempt to communicate with extraterrestrial (ET) life. Established in 1953 by the International Flying Saucer Bureau (IFSB), the original idea was for people to send a coordinated telepathic message into the cosmos. While there's no evidence that aliens have responded, that hasn't stopped believers from trying.
If you want to take part in World Contact Day, here are some of the ways you can try to reach out to extraterrestrials today.
1. Broadcast A Message Into Space

Although professional astronomers use high-powered radio telescopes to send messages to distant stars, anyone can broadcast a message using amateur radio. Some UFO enthusiasts believe that simply directing signals towards the sky could be noticed by alien observers.
As an alternative to radio, you could flash bright lights into the sky in specific patterns that might attract the attention of extraterrestrial spacecraft. This could involve shining a torch, using a mirror to reflect sunlight, or even setting up a simple LED beacon to pulse messages skyward. These messages could include mathematical patterns, universal symbols, or basic greetings, with the hope that intelligent life forms might detect them.

2. Skywatching

Many UFO enthusiasts believe that simply being outside and looking up increases the chances of experiencing something unusual. You could arrange a skywatching event in a location free from light pollution, such as remote countryside areas or hilltops. Participants can watch the skies together, potentially increasing the chance of noticing unusual aerial phenomena.
3. Attempt Telepathic Contact (CE-5)

Some believe that it's possible to make contact with extraterrestrials through telepathy, often through meditation. This process of meditative communication with extraterrestrials is known as a Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind (CE-5). Popularised by Steven Greer, this involves sitting in a quiet place, visualising an invitation for ET contact, and mentally projecting thoughts and images into the universe. Groups around the world claim to have had UFO sightings during CE-5 sessions.
4. Symbolic Messages

Some people believe that symbolic messages - drawn on the ground, arranged in lights, or created as temporary art - could attract extraterrestrial attention. While traditionally crop circles are thought by some UFO enthusiasts to be messages from extraterrestrials to humans, others have reversed the concept, creating their own large-scale ground symbols or artistic shapes specifically to visually signal extraterrestrial observers. The logic is simple: if aliens are already watching, perhaps they'll notice deliberate and unusual human-made designs and realise we're attempting communication.
5. Play 'The Five Tones' Trom 'Close Encounters Of The Third Kind'
If all else fails, you could always take inspiration from the classic UFO movie 'Close Encounters Of The Third Kind'. In the film, humans successfully make peaceful contact with extraterrestrials by playing a distinctive musical sequence of five notes. This simple melody has become iconic in UFO culture and symbolises humanity's desire to communicate with beings from other planets. Why not play the five tones yourself and see if anyone answers?
