About This Video
This video was uploaded to the YouTube channel Are You Haunted? in March 2021.
In the sixth episode of the 'Are You Haunted...?' GhostCast, it's all about Phil Whyman, the co-creator of the show. This week he'll be picking the topics the team will be discussing.
As always Phil is joined via webcam by the rest of his ghost-hunting team, including the show's other creator, Sara Whyman, Jane Carrigan, Wayne Dean, Ben Woodward and Dale Dickinson.
First Phil picks an investigation from their back-to-basics web series that he wants to discuss with the team. These retrospective discussions feature in each of the GhostCasts and are a really interesting insight into the team's past investigations... why has a team never done this before?
The location Phil picked was the team's investigation of Penrhyn Old Hall in Wales, which kicked off the show's second series. The investigation of the former Tudor hall marked the first time the team are joined by friend and fellow investigator Wayne Dean.
Penrhyn Old Hall dates back hundreds of years and had a reputation as being haunted. The investigators went in search of the reported phenomenon including the figure of a monk, a female presence on the stairs, voices and unexplained noises.
Phil then brings the team their weekly news story to debate. Although it's not so much news, more of a classic paranormal case which dates back to the early 1900s and was made famous in the late-70s in the cult Usborne book, 'The World Of The Unknown: Ghosts'. The team discuss the odd case of Gef the talking mongoose, which was investigated by such notable investigators as the legendary Harry Price.
You can tell that Phil is picking the topics this week, because the topic of the week is another classic paranormal case, the haunting of Borley Rectory, which was also featured in one of the classic Usborne ghost books.
The Rectory was demolished in 1944 after being damaged in a fire but the legend of the haunting at the Victorian house in Essex lives on to this day. The large Gothic-style rectory was said to be haunted since is was built in 1862.
Reports ranged from hearing unexplained footsteps within the house, to sightings of the ghost of a nun who was often spotted at twilight in the grounds of the house, and even a phantom coach driven by two headless horsemen.
What is the collective term for a mongoose?
