Once the site of the worst mining disaster in Nevada history, the Yellow Jacket mine erupted into flames on April 7, 1869. The fire broke out on the 800 foot level of the mine, the supports holding up sections of the mine smoldered and collapsed, spreading smoke and poisonous gases throughout the mine. More than 35 miners would lose their lives in this tragedy though there may have been others that weren’t recorded. Some of these miners were never recovered. Fortunately the fire happened during a shift change otherwise the loss of life would have been much worse. The smoldering levels of the mine were sealed off and remained hot for many years. Eventually after some years the mine would be left abandoned and Rumors of hauntings started to circulate. We are here to see if they’re true.
