Wharram Percy, a deserted medieval village in Yorkshire, has been occupied by humans since the Iron Age. Romans, Anglo-Saxons, Vikings, Normans have all lived there. The village is mentioned in the Domesday Book and the bodies which were discovered her had been mutilated and burned, in order to stop the dead from rising.
